Detail
This beauty is native to the rainforests of Brazil and is a part of the Marantaceae family. Plants in this family thrive in tropical temperaments, with most being found in rainforests of North and South America. It loves moist and warm environments with shaded light that mimics the canopy-shaded light found in the rainforest. Most Calathea plants are named based on their appearance. Our Calathea Pinstripe, for instance, has fun leaves that host several strawberry pink stripes. The Rattlesnake, like other Calathea plants are also known as prayer plants because of how their leaves fold up like praying hands when the sun goes down and open up again during the day. Pafe Plants also provides protective packaging when shipping plants.
Calathea ‘Rattlesnake’ Benefits
Most plants come with air purifying benefits; the Calathea Rattlesnake is no different. It can remove toxins from the air around it. Rattlesnake plants have also been known to reduce stress and boost mood levels in the rooms they are placed in.
Rattlesnake Skin
This interesting Calathea really looks like the name implies. The wavy leaf shapes paired with the unique markings really make it look like the skin of a snake. The base color of the leaf is a lime green with cream highlights. Decorate on the middle and outside corner of the leaves are forest green marks that look like spots of ink. The markings are variegated, which means that they change and look different with each plant.
Hidden Shades
Besides the green and cream hues, you find on the top part of the Calathea Rattlesnake’s leaves, the underbelly is a completely different story. Underneath the foliage, you can find shades of deep red, maroon, and even purple. The stems also maintain similar hues, with shades of brown and red.
Crinkled
The Rattlesnake’s striking foliage really keeps onlooker attention. Its leaves are wrinkled and have ridges, kind of like elongated potato chips. Calathea Rattlesnake leaves also tend to stick out at odd angles, accentuating the crinkled, disheveled appearance that gives a fun, bouncy look to any room you put it in. Makes a great desk plant, but it’s oddly shaped leaves may be a bit distracting.
